Top 3 Osaka Park Ghost Stories: A Comparison of Stories from Yamadaike, Oizumi, and Hiraoka

怪談をもとにしたAI再現イメージ。実際の現場写真ではありません。

A story I never knew on my usual walking route.

A photograph taken by the water's edge. A road where you pass someone walking a dog. Footsteps heard from behind on the way to the observation deck.

When you gather ghost stories from Osaka's parks, you'll find that they're not about events from a distant world, but rather stories that might catch your attention while you're out for a walk or playing. Even when describing the same place, some articles focus on photographs, while others recount sightings of figures on the park paths. Tracing these differences is one of the joys of reading ghost stories.

This time,Yamadaike Park, Oizumi Green Space, Hiraoka ParkI compared the stories from these three locations. The ranking is based on the number of ghost stories that fit into a common six categories, with the most common categories being the most frequent. This is a comparison within the three selected locations and does not represent the top three locations in Osaka Prefecture as a whole, nor does it determine the level of fear or danger.

What follows are rumors and hearsay from various sources. Please also enjoy the scenery of the trees and waterfront, and how people spend their days there.

3rd place

Even if the number of sources increases, there is only one story of the same kind. The latter half"Basis for the ranking"This section summarizes the counting method and the original article.

1st Place: Yamadaike Park (Hirakata City)

Faces captured in photographs, and flickering lights

What stands out in the ghost stories of Yamadaike Park is the one about checking a photograph afterward, rather than the moment of seeing something.

"National Haunted Map"The rumor being reported is that the lights in the park's restrooms were flickering, and a woman's face appeared in a photograph taken there."Paranormal Investigations"The same story, involving lighting and photography, is also included. I read it not as confirmation of separate experiences, but as an example of a single ghost story being presented in multiple places.

"awe"The site also features stories of a woman in white clothing and a boy on a red tricycle, a legend associated with the area around the park. However, the same site also presents a version of the tricycle story that takes place around a different pond. Urban legends are not fixed to a single location, but rather the setting shifts slightly each time they are told. This, too, offers a different kind of appeal compared to ghost stories told through photographs.

Even after leaving the park, I still felt uneasy about what was behind me.

In the "Paranormal Investigations" section, we introduce stories of people hearing voices from places where no one is present, as well as stories of people feeling like they were being watched even after returning home.

Light, photographs, voices, gazes. Each story evokes slightly different feelings. There's a fear that makes you stop looking at the photos you've taken, and a fear that makes you want to turn around. Comparing the stories reveals that even though they're all about ghosts in the same park, the lingering feeling changes.

What we were able to confirm this time was:There are five types: appearance, sound, photos/videos, equipment malfunctions, and stories that continue even after returning home.Descriptions of physical condition mentioned after returning home are not counted as duplicates in the "contact and physical condition" section for the time spent at the location.

What I'm curious about at Yamadaike Park during the daytime is,Official MapThis is the aquatic flower garden and observation plaza located here. You can enjoy irises, hydrangeas, and water lilies, and relax in the plaza overlooking the pond.

Official park informationThis section introduces Yamada Pond as a reservoir that has supported the lives of the local community since ancient times. It is not only the setting for ghost stories, but also a place where people have a long relationship with water. In the autumn foliage season, you can also enjoy the scenery of Momiji Valley.

The official map indicates that there are areas on Mt. Kasugayama that are off-limits to the public. Please use the open walking paths. For information on flowering seasons and visitor guidelines, please check the official website before you go.

To read the original article: The discussion of photography and lighting is in "National Ghost Map," the breadth of the narrative is in "Paranormal Investigations," and the differences in the setting of the red tricycle are in "Awe."

An AI-generated image based on a ghost story about a person with a dog in Oizumi Ryokuchi Park. It is not a photograph of an actual scene or supernatural event, nor does it recreate the shape of the park.

The person who appears to be walking a dog

At Oizumi Ryokuchi Park, a story about the ghost of a person with a dog appearing caught my attention."National Haunted Map"と"awe"It appears in both.

Walking a dog is a perfectly normal sight in a park. But when this commonplace scene becomes the subject of a ghost story, even a distant figure starts to feel unsettling. The story of Oizumi Ryokuchi Park has that kind of everyday horror.

The section titled "Awe" also features a ghost accompanied by a dog, as well as a man in a black suit."Paranormal Investigations"It includes stories of dark shadows on the garden paths and whispers heard around the pond. You can compare stories where things are visible with stories where only voices are heard.

The chill of the field trip, the black shadows in the photo

"Paranormal Investigations" includes stories of people feeling a strong chill when visiting the place on a school trip, and stories of a black figure appearing in a photograph. From ghost stories that seem to be seen from afar, like the figure with a dog, to those that feel real and appear in photographs, the distance of fear becomes much closer.

This timeThere are four types: appearance, sound, photos/videos, and contact/physical condition. That's it. The person with the dog and the man in the suit are both grouped together as one "appearance." It's not a system where you add points each time a character is added.

The health information presented in the article is presented as a rumor only. It does not indicate the actual cause of the health problems or the effectiveness of the exorcism.

Enjoy a picnic or barbecue among the trees

Oizumi Green Park Official WebsiteThe park features a plaza, playground equipment, sports facilities, and a barbecue area surrounded by trees. The flower and greenery consultation center offers plant consultations, exhibits, and workshops. It's a park where you can not only run and play, but also relax and enjoy the plants.

Official transportation informationIt's about 1km east from Shin-Kanaoka Station on the Osaka Metro Midosuji Line. Its accessibility on foot is also a major draw. Since there may be notices about construction or maintenance at the facility, it's a good idea to check the information for the area you plan to visit.

To read the original article: The story begins with the common theme of someone with a dog, then moves on to discussions of paranormal photographs and voices. What will be chilling will likely vary from reader to reader.

3rd Place: Hiraoka Park (Higashi-Osaka City)

The sound of footsteps on the mountain path stops and stops.

The ghost stories of Hiraoka Park are best suited to scenes of walking along mountain paths.

"Paranormal Investigations"The story includes an account of seeing a black, human-shaped shadow on the way to the observation deck, and a tale of footsteps that followed when you walked and stopped when you stopped.

The source of the sound and my movements overlap, though I can't quite make out what it is. It's a different kind of fear than seeing something; it makes me want to check behind me. I find myself picturing a path winding through the trees, wondering what the source of the sound is.

There was also an article describing the light from the pond.

"National Haunted Map"The "Paranormal Investigations" section also mentions rumors of a fireball at Uba-ga-ike Pond. Even within the same park, some articles touch upon the story of the old pond, while others detail events on the mountain path. The image you conjure up changes depending on where you start reading.

The common categories we counted this time were:There are two types: appearance and sound.Light seen with the naked eye is different from "photographs and videos," so it is not included in the photography classification. The ranking is not based on the number of types, meaning the stories are shorter or less frightening.

Official User GuideAccording to the information, Hiraoka Park stretches across two ridges, Nukadayama and Hiraokayama, with the Toyoura River flowing between them. It's a place where you can enjoy different things with each season, from cherry blossoms and azaleas to fresh greenery and autumn leaves.

From the observation deck, you can see the Osaka Plain. After reading the ghost stories of the mountain path, you'll want to see the open view on a clear day even more. There's also a play area for children called "Forest Toy Box," so it's a park that can be enjoyed by families as well.

Open fires are strictly prohibited throughout Hiraoka Park, including barbecues. Please enjoy your stroll during daylight hours, and be prepared for the weather and terrain.

To read the original article: "Paranormal Observations," which explores the flow of footsteps on a mountain path, and "National Paranormal Map," which briefly introduces rumors surrounding a pond. The same place, but told from different perspectives.

Basis for the ranking—what was counted this time?

Source verified: September 16, 2026. I selected three locations where I could check multiple sources of ghost stories and official park guides, and compared eight pages of the ghost story texts. This is not a result of investigating all parks in the prefecture.

The same six categories used in the Kyushu edition—"Appearance/Sound/Photos/Video/Contact/Physical Condition/Abnormalities in Equipment/Stories Continuing After Returning Home"—are used. The number of categories is not based on the number of sources or search hits; if a category is confirmed in the text, it's counted as 1. Multiple stories within the same category count as 1, and if there are ties in the same category, they are given the same rank.

Sightings involving only light, vague presences, and stories of curses in unclear locations have not been forced into the above classifications. Oizumi's statement that "he was unwell for a while afterward" is also not included in the "after returning home" classification because the events after returning home or leaving are not clearly described. "—" indicates that the basis for classification was not considered within the scope of this discussion.

Even if similar stories are found in multiple articles, it doesn't necessarily mean that there are more independent experiences. Official materials are referenced not to rate ghost stories, but to learn about the current appeal and usage guidelines of the park.

After reading a ghost story, I also started paying attention to the park during the daytime.

Yamadaike, with its intriguing photographs and lights; Oizumi, reminiscent of a stroll; and Hiraoka, evoking the sounds of the background—even though they all share the same theme of "ghost stories in parks," each leaves a different impression after reading.

After enjoying the different narrative styles in the original articles, be sure to check out the photos of flowers and plazas on the official website. There are sights of the place that you wouldn't encounter through ghost stories alone. Please enjoy the park while respecting the rules of use and refraining from exploring at night or entering facilities without permission.
