This happened when I went to Mount Himeyama with a friend to test our courage in the middle of the night. We climbed the mountain path and arrived in front of an abandoned house, and the eerie atmosphere took our breath away. The windows were broken, and the walls were covered in graffiti. Suddenly, I glanced out the second-floor window and thought I saw something white flickering. My friend said, "There's nothing there," but at that moment, I heard footsteps coming from inside the building—tap...tap... It was as if someone was slowly coming down the stairs. My body froze with fear, and all I could do was run away.

2. Old Higashiyama Tunnel (Tokushima City)

The old Higashiyama Tunnel in Tokushima City is one of the prefecture's most notorious haunted spots, with a chilling legend circulating that an execution ground once stood nearby. Although short in length, the interior is always damp and dimly lit, giving those who pass through an unsettling sense of oppression. Numerous paranormal phenomena have been reported, most of which are said to occur while driving.

It happened when I was driving through the old Higashiyama Tunnel in the middle of the night. I was chatting with a friend about trivial things when we entered the tunnel. Suddenly, the inside of the car became cold, and the radio cut out. I had a bad feeling, so I looked in the rearview mirror and saw a faint white figure sitting in the back seat. I was overcome with a chilling fear, so I floored the accelerator and sped out of the tunnel. When I got home and checked the car, there was a clear, small handprint, like that of a child, on the passenger-side window... I'm absolutely certain that wasn't my imagination.

3. Otsu Bridge (Tokushima City)

The Otsu Bridge, spanning the Shinmachi River in Tokushima City, has a tragic history, as it is said that many people have taken their own lives there in the past. Therefore, it is said that crossing this bridge at night can bring a sense of eerie presence or frightening phenomena emanating from the water's surface. This spiritual atmosphere is said to intensify, especially late at night.

• When crossing the bridge at night, you feel as if you're being watched from somewhere.
• A white hand was suddenly seen reaching out from the surface of the river.
• I can see a figure standing on the bridge railing, even though there shouldn't be anyone there.
• A faint voice, like "Help me," can be heard coming from the surface of the water.
• My body suddenly felt heavy on the bridge, and I stopped in my tracks.

Locals had warned me to "stay away from Otsu Bridge at night," but my curiosity got the better of me, and my friend and I went there late at night. As we approached the middle of the bridge, a heavy pressure suddenly hit my body, and my legs froze. I glanced at the river and saw something that vaguely resembled a human face floating up and down on the surface, then disappearing, then reappearing. It was as if it was looking up at us from underwater. I desperately wanted to run away, but my body felt as heavy as lead, and I still vividly remember being unable to move for a while.

4. Tokushima Castle Ruins (Tokushima Central Park) (Tokushima City)

I turned around, but there was no one there. As I continued on, I heard a metallic clang, which sent chills down my spine. I immediately ran away, but I can't forget the terror I felt then and the presence of that unseen "something."

5. Tatsue-ji Temple (Komatsushima City)

Tatsue-ji Temple in Komatsushima City is the 19th temple on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage and is also known as the "Temple of the Checkpoint." This temple has a terrifying legend of "black hair" where, if an evil person passes through, their hair will become entangled in the bell rope. Legends of ghosts with physical bodies are also passed down, and a unique, tense atmosphere hangs over the temple grounds.

I visited Tatsue-ji Temple with a friend after hearing the legend of the black hair. It was twilight, and there were few tourists around. Looking up at the bell near the main hall, it really did look like something thin and black was entangled in the bell's rope. The moment I pressed the accelerator in terror, I was enveloped in such a thick fog that everything turned white, and I couldn't see even a short distance ahead. I lost my way and fell into a state of complete panic. Somehow the fog cleared and I made it through the pass, but I swore I would never drive over that pass at night again.
