The last time I casually stepped into the entrance to the Aokigahara forest, I immediately sensed something was wrong. My compass kept spinning, and my GPS wasn't working at all. It felt as if time and space were warped. I felt like I was being watched through the gaps in the trees, and when I turned around, I thought I saw someone's shadow, and my heart froze. I never want to go near there again. I'm convinced that place is where the boundary between the living and the dead is blurred.

2. Oiranbuchi (Koshu City)

Oiranbuchi is a place with a tragic history, where 55 courtesans were murdered during the Sengoku period to protect a secret related to Takeda Shingen's hidden gold mine. It is said that the vengeful spirits of many women still swirl around the place today because of its gruesome past.

• From the bottom of the river, the sound of a woman sobbing in agony can be heard.
• If you stand near the bridge at night, you may see the ghost of a woman in a white kimono.
• You might suddenly be struck by a chill that makes your body freeze, or you might catch a whiff of a sweet scent.
• It is said that the face of a woman, distorted with suffering, appears on the surface of the water.

When I visited the Oiranbuchi Bridge late at night, I distinctly heard a faint but clear sob, as if it were coming from the bottom of the river. The sound was different from the wind; it carried a raw sadness that sent chills down my spine. I turned around and thought I saw a white shadow flickering at the foot of the bridge, and seized by fear, I jumped into my car and fled as fast as I could. The sobs of that night still echo in my ears.

3. Yatsugatake Kogen Ohashi Bridge (Hokuto City)

The Yatsugatake Kogen Ohashi Bridge, commonly known as the "Yellow Bridge," is feared by locals as a place where suicides by jumping off are rampant, despite its beautiful scenery. It is said that many souls burdened with unfulfilled desires remain on the bridge.

• When you cross the bridge late at night, even though there should be no one there, it looks as if a white hand is reaching out from the railing.
• Sometimes, the rearview mirror can reflect the silhouettes of people standing in the back seat or on a bridge.
• If you stop your car in the middle of the bridge, the engine might suddenly stop, or you might hear knocking on the windows.
• From beneath the bridge, I can hear cries for help and low groans.

It happened in the middle of the night when I was driving across the Yatsugatake Kogen Ohashi Bridge with a friend. There was a lull in our conversation, and for just a moment, I thought I saw the face of a woman in white in the rearview mirror on the driver's side. I instinctively cried out, "Someone's there!" but when I turned around, there was no one there. When we entered the old Utou Tunnel as a test of courage, the air there was distinctly different. A damp, cold air and a strange, somewhat fishy smell assaulted our nostrils.
